Wilson Pickett – In The Midnight Hour (1987 Motown Records Corp. re-make)
May 1, 2012 Oldies Music
Stereo vinyl track, with backing vocals by Julia Waters, Maxine Waters and Carmen Twillie on an updated re-make of his classic hit. Contrary to popular belief held by many uninformed people, Wilson was never “Motown” – that is, until the end of his career when he actually recorded for that label. The word “Motown” is indiscriminantly tossed about by most folks as referring to any music performed by an African American soul/R&B artist from the ’60s and ’70s and have even gone so far as to label Aretha Franklin “Queen of Motown”..LOL. To those of us who are true Motown fanatics, it has always referred specifically to Motown Records Corp., the record company created by Berry Gordy Jr. in Detroit Michigan; the Motown Sound specifically refers to the wonderful artists who recorded exlusively for that record label (and it’s various subsidiaries)only!!! Produced by Robert Margouleff, with executive producer Russ Regan – from the 1987 OOP Motown Records Corp. LP “American Soul Legend”.

Wilson Pickett – 634-5789 (Soulsville, USA)
Apr 1, 2012 Oldies Music

Written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper, “634-5789 (Soulsville USA)” was vintage Wilson Pickett. The recording went to #13 on the pop charts during March of 1966.
Pickett left Atlantic for RCA in 1972, eventually releasing four albums for them through the mid-’70s, and the best tracks on those albums are compiled on Take Your Pleasure Where You Find It. I came across this track on the 1973 RCA compilation Soul Explosion with Mr. Magic Man and Take Your Pleasure Where You Find It.

Wilson Pickett – Mustang Sally (Original)
Feb 7, 2012 Oldies Music

“Mustang Sally” was written and first recorded by Mack Rice in 1965. The idea for the song originated when singer Della Reese expressed an interest to him in owning a Ford Mustang. Mack wrote the song first with the title of “Mustang Mama”, but changed it to “Mustang Sally” at the suggestion of Aretha Franklin. Wilson’s famous cover of this song came a year after Mack’s original and went to #23 on the pop charts in December of ’66.
